The One-month challenge

A one-month bootcamp to get on top of your workload, without the stress.

Reading about a planning system and running one are different things. So rather than hand you six modules and wish you luck, we tell you what to do each day for a month. You do it on your real work, and we’re there each week to answer whatever has come up.

You add one piece a week, with a module or two each Monday and an hour with us each Wednesday. By the last week you’re running it on your own, with 20 days of finished work behind you

Nobody falls behind because they’re lazy. They fall behind because their routine either fell apart or never existed.

The best system is the one you’ll stick to

Put 30 managers in one organisation and you’ll get 30 different ways of organising, few of them intentional or effective.

People either overcomplicate the system until maintaining it becomes another job, or they underdo it and carry the work in their heads. Things slip through the gaps, and you walk around with a low-grade sense that you’ve missed something.

Every conscientious manager has more to do than time to do it. It only gets worse with seniority – a chief executive has more to worry about than a first-time manager and exactly the same hours in the week. People usually deal with that in one of two flawed ways:

1

Waiting for the load to pass

This is avoidance dressed up as optimism

2

Working longer hours

This works to a point – and then you run out of hours (and life)

A simple routine doesn’t create more hours in the week. It creates control, which brings the stress down whatever the workload.

This is the routine we developed and now use ourselves, after 30 combined years of finding out what works. We started with David Allen’s Getting Things Done and tested most of the alternatives. And the we stripped it back to two essentials: a weekly matrix and a daily pick. We can’t promise that your work will go away, but you will feel in control, more focussed and less stressed.

– Sean and Joel, Impact Society co-founders

four-week challenge · Next cohort starts [start_date]

Exactly what happens, week by week.

One or two 20-minute modules each Monday, and an hour-long live session each Wednesday. You take on one new piece a week, and we tell you what to do each day in between. This guides you to adopt the system one piece at a time, with us by your side for each step. A 10-min daily routine is introduced in week 1 and then you build to the full system by week 4, which includes a 30 to 60 minute once per week review on top of the 10-min daily review. With the right structure, that’s all you need to finally feel on top of your work.

For organisations

Buying for a team or a whole organisation?

For the team that says they have too much on their plate. If you ask 20 managers how they organise their work, you’ll get 20 different answers. And a lot of them won’t be very systematic or effective – and many will be more complicated than they need to be. But if you train them all in the same lightweight system, you’ll give everyone the same framework – and vocabulary – for making sure nothing slips through the cracks and that the most important work gets done, while reducing stress levels across the organisation.

If you’d like to pur your team or organisation through our course, we offer bulk discounts on both the standalone and one-month challenge options. And, if you put 10 or more people through the one-month challenge, we’ll run a private cohort on dates, days and times that work best for your team.

Frequently asked questions.

How much of my time will this take?

The course is six modules of about 20 minutes each, so about two hours in total.

Running the routine then takes about 30 to 60 minutes once a week and 10 minutes a day, permanently.

I use paper. Will this work?

Yes. The system was built on paper and still runs that way, and every template comes in a printable version. Nothing here needs an app or a migration.

Should I pay the extra money for the one-month challenge?

It depends on you. If you’ve taught yourself a system before and stuck with it, great – the standalone course will suit you.

If your track record is starting things in January and losing them by March, take the challenge. Completing the six modules is the easy part. Running the system on your own work, with someone answering your questions each week, is what makes it stick.

What if I miss a live session?

Every session is recorded. That said, the live sessions are the reason the challenge costs more, so if you can’t make most of them, buy the course and save the money.

What if I come off the rails after a few months?

You probably will. Almost everyone does. Module six teaches a 10-minute restart that gets you back on track, without starting again from scratch.

We’re after consistency over months and years, not a perfect streak.

How is this different from Getting Things Done?

It started there. Some 30 combined years later, this is what was left once we removed everything that we found unessential.

There are three real differences. It’s much smaller. It’s written for managers rather than knowledge workers in general. And it puts prioritising at the centre, which is the step most systems skip.

Who should not buy this?

If you’re in genuine crisis, whether that’s a restructure, a health issue or an unsafe workload, a planning routine isn’t what you need. Deal with the crisis first.

If you already run a weekly routine you trust, you don’t need this.

It’s also deliberately narrow. We teach a weekly reset and a daily pick, and nothing else. No email management, no meeting load and no productivity philosophy.

Can my employer pay for it?

Usually, yes. Most organisations have a professional development budget and this sits inside it. Ask us for an invoice made out to your employer.

If your organisation would rather buy for a group, volume pricing starts at 10 seats and we run private cohorts. See the section above.

What’s your refund policy?

You get 30 days, no quibbles, the same as everything else we sell. If the routine doesn’t suit you, tell us and we’ll refund you.

Why do you limit the number of seats?

Because a live session with 200 people in it isn’t a session, it’s a webinar. We cap public cohorts at 10 seats so everyone gets time to ask about their own week.

I have more questions, how can I get in touch?

We’d love to hear from you!  You can contact us here anytime.  We’ll help you with any questions or advice you need on how the workshop might be able to help your organisation or team.

Ready to start?

In four weeks you’ll either have a routine that sticks – or another month of “I’ll get on top of it next week”.

Our lightweight planning system for managers only requires 30 to 60 minutes once a week and 10 minutes a day once implemented.
